GRANGER — Facing extremely difficult conditions, PCM’s boys golf team finished sixth during the Des Moines Christian Invitational on Thursday.
It was brutally cold and very windy at the par 72 Jester Park Golf Course. The Mustangs shot a 405 and were several strokes better than both Panorama and Earlham.
“The feels like temperature when we started was low 20s and when we ended it was still only 32 with the wind,” PCM boys golf coach Collin Harrison said. “The wind gusts were up to 55 to 60 miles per hour. It was a tough day on the course, but the kids really showed a lot of mental toughness and most performed better on their second nine holes than their first.”
Grant Van Veen led the Mustangs with a 98 and was 22nd overall. Keaton Thomas fired a 101 and was 26th followed by Easton Van Veen’s 102. He finished 27th.
The final counting scorer was Tate Tangeman, who shot a 104 and finished 31st.
The two non-counting scorers were Drake Roorda and Jeffrey McDanel, who both shot a 111.
Host Des Moines Christian won the team title with a 349. The rest of the eight-team field included Hampton-Dumont (370), Treynor (372), Greene County (377), Coon Rapids-Bayard (404), PCM (405), Panorama (411) and Earlham (417).
