Van Dyke, VandeLune lead five Mustangs on all-HOIC team

All five PCM starters earn spots on all-conference squad

PCM seniors Durant Van Dyke and Carson VandeLune were at the center of everything for the Mustang boys basketball team this winter.

They ranked in the top seven in the Heart of Iowa Conference in a combined nine different statistical categories and for their efforts were named to the first team all-conference squad recently.

The all-HOIC boys basketball team was released to the public this week after conference champion Roland-Story lost its first game at the state tournament.

The Mustangs finished third in the conference behind the Norse and Nevada.

All-conference honors are based on statistics inside conference play only.

Joining Van Dyke and VandeLune on the all-HOIC squad were the other three starters. Senior Matt Rosonke was a second team selection and sophomore Jacob Wendt and senior Cade Lindsay both were honorable mention picks.

The HOIC also produces an academic all-conference squad and making that list from PCM were Van Dyke, Rosonke, VandeLune, Keaton Thomas, Darrell DeVries, Brayden Nessa, Caden Bouwkamp, Jack Eighmey, Gabe Graber and August Stock.

The Mustangs had more academic all-conference players than any other school in the league.

Van Dyke and VandeLune could have been named first team all-conference for finishing 1-2 in scoring alone but their production goes beyond points scored.

Van Dyke led the league in scoring at 18 points per game. He was second in blocks at 2.3 per game and second in field-goal percentage at 61.7.

He was seventh in rebounds per game at 6.9, seventh in steals per tilt at 1.7 and also averaged 2.4 assists per contest.

VandeLune was second behind Van Dyke in scoring at 17.3 points per game, but he ranked first in the league at 2.6 steals per game and was sixth in 3-point percentage at 37.4.

He also finished seventh in steals per game at 3.2 and averaged 2.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 44 percent from the floor and 74.6 percent from the free-throw line.

Rosonke averaged 8.9 points per game but ranked tied for fifth at 7.1 rebounds per game and was fourth in steals per game at 2.0. He also was 11th in assists per tilt at 2.6, ranked sixth in blocks per game at .6 and shot 46 percent from the floor.

Wendt ranked fourth in the league in rebounds per game at 7.5, 10th in steals per contest at 1.5 and 11th in assists per tilt at 2.6. He averaged 5.8 points per game and ranked 11th in 3-point percentage at 35.6.

Lindsay averaged 3.1 points, 1.6 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
