Tough offensive night plagues L-S girls in loss to Pleasantville

Hawks can’t overcome third-quarter drought against Trojans

PLEASANTVILLE — A rough third quarter and 36 turnovers plagued Lynnville-Sully’s girls basketball team against Pleasantville on Monday night.

The Hawks led by one at halftime but increased defensive pressure by the Trojans led to a shift in the second half as Pleasantville won the non-conference game 47-30.

Pleasantville outscored the Hawks 16-2 in the third and scored 32 points off the L-S turnovers.

“We had a pretty good first half but didn’t handle Pleasantville’s increased pressure very well in the second half,” L-S girls basketball coach Jerry Hulsing said. “It led to too many turnovers and some easy points for them.”

The Hawks led 9-6 after one and 18-17 at the break. But they also shot just 23 percent from the floor and were 2-of-10 from 3-point range without their most experienced player as Reagan McFarland missed the game because of an illness.

The Hawks did out-rebound the Trojans 46-28 and held Pleasantville to 30 percent shooting.

“Overall our defense was pretty good, but we need to be better on offense to give us a chance,” Hulsing said.

Greenlee Smock led the Hawks (6-5) with 14 points, 10 steals and six rebounds.

Natalie Nikkel added four points and eight rebounds, Majesta Vos chipped in six points and four rebounds and Alexy Conover tallied five points, five rebounds and three assists.

Brooke Conover grabbed six boards and Elise Alberts had three rebounds.

Adi Adreon led all scorers with 22 points. The Trojans (6-4) made seven 3-pointers in the win but were 6-of-16 from the free-throw line. L-S was 10-of-18 from the line.
