Tigerhawk boys rally past Warriors, girls win second straight

VICTOR — Colfax-Mingo used a big second half to rally past HLV during a South Iowa Cedar League boys basketball game on Thursday.

The Tigerhawks trailed by 13 at halftime but outscored the Warriors 38-24 in the second half during a 59-58 road win.

Colfax-Mingo got within two after three quarters and won the fourth frame 16-13 to finish the comeback.

The Tigerhawks shot 42 percent from the floor, made 7-of-14 from long range and won the game despite making just 14-of-25 from the free-throw line and committing 16 turnovers.

The 59 points scored matched a season-high from the team’s opener against Chariton.

Joe Earles led the Tigerhawks (2-5 overall, 1-4 in the conference) with a career-high 17 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Cole Bracewell had 16 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals, Colton Lind finished with six points, two rebounds, five assists and two steals and Cael Bracewell tallied five points, five assists and three steals.

Brandon Kite had four points and three rebounds and Harrison Rhone, Jared Lewis and Conner Wood all scored three points off the bench.

HLV (0-6, 0-5) led 34-21 at halftime.

GIRLS

Colfax-Mingo 37, HLV 28

The Tigerhawk girls shot 25 percent from the floor, committed 21 turnovers and made only 10-of-23 from the foul line. And still won.

Colfax-Mingo led by three at halftime and used a 19-point fourth-quarter explosion to pull away from HLV on Thursday, winning 37-28 during SICL play.

The Tigerhawks, who made 3-of-14 from long range, have won three of their last four games and two straight.

Abi Rawlins led Colfax-Mingo (4-3, 3-2) with 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals, Caylee Cunningham had five points, five rebounds, six assists and two steals and Carley Underwood registered nine points, four rebounds and two steals.

Kyra Lester added six points, six rebounds and two steals, Madison Riddle chipped in four points, three rebounds, two assists and three steals and Charlotte Donahue collected three points, three rebounds and two steals.

HLV (1-6, 1-4) was led by Janessa Blomme, who had five points, 10 rebounds, three steals an three blocks. The Warriors committed 24 turnovers, shot 19.5 percent from the floor and made 10-of-18 from the line.
