Newton wrestling falls to Indianola, Waukee NW in season openers

Newton’s wrestling team opened its season at home against Indianola and Waukee Northwest, but the Cardinals struggled to find points on Thursday night.

The Cardinals lost to Indianola 77-3 and were defeated 71-11 by Waukee Northwest.

Jason Weithers won a 14-9 decision at 126 pounds against the Indians. Kaiden Rogers (106) won his match by fall in 55 seconds against Waukee Northwest and Colin Sharp (152) was an 18-3 technical fall winner in his bout.
