Clarke spoils Colfax-Mingo’s Homecoming

Indians’ big second quarter enough to dispatch Tigerhawks

COLFAX — Colfax-Mingo couldn’t overcome a subpar second quarter against Class 2A Clarke on Friday night during a 35-19 Homecoming loss to the Indians.

The Tigerhawks led 3-0 after one quarter but were outscored 20-3 in the second and never recovered. Clarke outscored Colfax-Mingo 15-13 in the second half.

Clarke, which earned its first win over Colfax-Mingo in five tries since 2010, rushed for 278 yards and averaged 7.3 yards per carry.

Cole Bracewell threw for 200 yards, rushed for 121 yards and one touchdown on 18 carries and had six tackles and one interception on defense. He also booted a 50-yard punt.

Merritt McConeghey scored the other touchdown, ran for 19 yards and had a team-best eight tackles.

Justin Myers caught two passes for 76 yards and had 4 1/2 tackles on defense. Curtis Horras hauled in three passes for 66 yards and kicked two field goals.

Colton Lind added four catches for 29 yards and finished with three tackles for the Tigerhawks (0-2). Trey Hockemeier caught three passes for 20 yards and Cael Bracewell hauled in two passes for 11 yards and collected 3 1/2 tackles and recovered a fumble on defense.

Nate Jones chipped in four tackles and Joe Earles added three tackles and a fumble recovery.

Jack Cooley had 112 passing yards, 16 rushing yards and a rushing TD for Clarke, and KJ Fry added 80 rushing yards and three scores.

Clarke (2-0) had three sacks, seven tackles for loss and two interceptions on defense.
