Newton boys shut out Indianola soccer

Cardinals draw even in LHC after 2-0 win over Indians

INDIANOLA — Jack Suttek and Parker Aalbers both scored goals, Caleb Lawson had six saves and Newton’s boys soccer team shut out host Indianola, 2-0, during Little Hawkeye Conference action on Tuesday.

Suttek’s team-best sixth goal of the season made it 1-0 in the first half and Aalbers’ fifth goal of the spring extended the lead to 2-0 in the second half at Indianola Stadium.

“It would have been nice to score a few more goals, but I am proud of the guys for getting a win,” Newton boys soccer coach Zach Jensen said. “We played a pretty complete game. I thought we put two good halves together.”

The win for the Cardinals (7-8 overall, 3-3 in conference play) came against Jensen’s high school coach Heath Weeks, who is in his first season at Indianola (2-10, 2-4).

Suttek and Aalbers each now have a team-best 13 points. Derek Beiner’s team-high fifth assist of the season set up Suttek’s first-half goal. Christian Lawson’s first assist of his career set up Aalbers’ goal in the final 40 minutes.

“Parker played a great game tonight,” Jensen said. “We have been working with him on run outs and pattern plays and if he continues to play like that the rest of the year, it will gives us more offensive threats.”
