Baxter girls finish second, C-M fourth at Lady Bolts Relays

Tuhn, Conradi leads Bolts while Lester, Underwood highlight Tigerhawks’ night

BAXTER — Seven wins powered Baxter’s girls track and field team to a runner-up finish at the Lady Bolts Relays on Thursday.

Elie Tuhn won the 1,500- and 3,000-meter runs, Kailee Conradi claimed a win in the 800 and was the runner-up in the 3,000 and the Bolts scored 115 points in second place.

Colfax-Mingo got 18 points from Kyra Lester and Carley Underwood and finished fourth with 89 points.

Collins-Maxwell (125) was 10 points better than Baxter at the top. Montezuma was third with 98 points. The rest of the six-team field included Madrid (79) and Pleasantville (70).

The Bolts won a pair of relays but five of the seven wins came in individual events.

Tuhn won the 1,500 in 5 minutes, 23.51 seconds and was the victor in the 3,000 in 11:44.07. She finished her night with a team-best 22.5 points.

Conradi scored a season-high 21.5 points. She won the 800 with a season-best time of 2:39.33 and recorded a season-best time in the 3,000 and finished second in 12:24.26. Regan Russell was third in the 1,500 in 5:45.62.

Bree Buswell scored 19 points on the night. She won the 400 hurdles in 1:16.78 and was third in the 100 hurdles in 17.84. Sophie Meyer gave the Bolts double points in the 400 hurdles as she was third in 1:20.66.

Mandee Selover scored 17 points on the night and grabbed the team’s other individual win. She won the long jump with a career-best leap of 15 feet, 4 inches. She also was fourth in the 200 in 30.12.

The Bolts won the shuttle hurdle and distance medley relays.

The shuttle hurdle team of Maddie Pierce, Meyer, Carlee Zahurones and Buswell won with a season-best time of 1:16.41.

The distance medley relay also had a season-best time of 4:44.51. That foursome included Pierce, Conradi, Selover and Tuhn.

The Tigerhawks won two events. Lester won the discus with a career-best throw of 110-2 1/2. Underwood won the 100 hurdles in 17.54. Lester set a new personal-best throw the next night in Newton as she hit 110-3.

Colfax-Mingo scored a lot of points in the field events.

Lester was second in the shot put, McKayla Smith finished third and Olivia Uecker claimed a sixth-place finish. Lester’s runner-up throw covered a career-best distance of 31 feet, 7 3/4 inches. Smith’s throw was marked at 31-4 1/2 and Uecker hit 26-5 3/4.

In the discus, Lester was first, Uecker finished third and Smith was fifth. Uecker had a career-best throw of 89-9 and Smith’s toss was marked at 82-3 1/2.

Underwood (14-3) finished third in the long jump, Abi Rawlins (13-5 1/2) finished fifth and Kylie Doty (13-2) was sixth. Underwood’s jump of 14-9 the next night in Newton is a new career-best leap.

The other individual top-five finishes came from Maggie Schroeder and Danica Linn. Schroeder finished third in the 400 with a season-best time of 1:16 and Linn was fifth in the 800 in a  season-best time of 2:56.87.

The top relay finish came in the 4x200 as the Tigerhawks were second in 2:01.65 with Rawlins, Madison Riddle, Caylee Cunningham and McKenna Pleima.

The sprint medley and 4x400 relays both were third. The sprint medley team of Doty, Riddle, Cunningham and Pleima ran a season-best time of 2:05.8 and the 4x400 team of Linn-Cunningham, Riddle and Felicity Woods finished in 4:58.06.
