Newton seniors Meg Callaghan and Chassidy Henwood ranked in the top 10 in a combined seven statistical categories this past girls’ basketball season.
And their efforts have landed them on the Little Hawkeye all-conference team.
Callaghan was named to the second team after averaging a double-double this past season, while Henwood and senior Victoria Reynolds both were honorable mention selections.
Henwood ranked in the top eight in the conference in points, rebounds, assists and steals.
The girls’ all-conference teams were released this weekend after LHC champion Dallas Center-Grimes was knocked out of the state tournament by eventual champion Ballard in the semifinals.
All-conference honors are based on statistics inside conference play only.
Callaghan ranked sixth in the LHC in scoring at 14 points per game and led the league in rebounds at 11 per contest. She also averaged 1.8 steals and 1.0 assists per game.
Callaghan was second in the LHC in field goal percentage at 55 percent. She also shot 59 percent from the free-throw line and started all 14 conference games this season.
Henwood consistently filled up the stat sheet for the Cardinals. She ranked seventh in the league in scoring at 13.8 points per game and was eighth in rebounds per game at 5.9.
The Cardinal point guard also led the LHC in assists and steals per game at 5.2 and 4.1, respectively.
Henwood, who started all 13 conference games she played in, shot 47.6 percent from the floor and 61.4 percent from the line.
She shot 37 percent from 3-point range and would have ranked in the top 10 in the LHC if she had the minimum 20 3-point attempts. Henwood was 7-of-19 from 3 in conference games this season.
Reynolds averaged 4.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 22 percent from the floor, 26 percent from the line and 21 percent from 3-point range.
Reynolds started all 14 conference games.
