L-S wrestling edges C-M in SICL triangular

North Mahaska downs Hawks, Tigerhawks

COLFAX — Lynnville-Sully’s wrestling team made up for surrendering four forfeits against Colfax-Mingo by scoring five wins by pin during a 36-33 victory during a South Iowa Cedar League triangular on Saturday.

North Mahaska also competed and defeated both L-S and C-M in their head-to-head battles. The Warhawks downed the Hawks 39-33 and handed the Tigerhawks a 44-36 defeat.

In the Jasper County battle, the Hawks went 5-2 in contested matches and all five wins came by fall. It helped L-S overcome an 18-point deficit in forfeits.

The wins by pin came from Caleb Rea against Austin Lane at 132, C.J. Snethen (25-10) over Cavan Magnuson at 138, Maxwell Mintle over Kylie Doty at 145, Reese Dunsbergen (23-12) against Hunter Stevens at 152 and Miles Mintle (18-6) over Ben Keeney at 195.

For Colfax-Mingo, Trystin Anderson pinned Isaac Vos at 170 and Noah Strohmeyer (30-4) defeated Gentry Walston 22-16 at 113.

Kyle Squires (160) took a forfeit for L-S. Mariah Webster (120), John McGill (126), Shane Aikin (182) and Kenny Schlosser (285) all took forfeits for the Tigerhawks.

L-S went 4-2 in contested matches against North Mahaska but lost because it surrendered five forfeits. Maxwell Mintle (27-3), Dunsbergen and Vos all won by fall, while Miles Mintle won 3-0. Walston (28-9) and Caleb Rea both took forfeits.

Colfax-Mingo and North Mahaska each gave up three forfeits in their dual. The Warhawks won the dual because they went 5-3 in contested matches.

McGill (36-5), Stevens (31-9) and Anderson all won by fall, while Strohmeyer, Lane and Aikin (22-14) all took forfeits.

Rea, Maxwell Mintle, Dunsbergen and Miles Mintle all went 2-0 for the Hawks.

Class 1A No. 7 Strohmeyer, McGill, Anderson and Aikin all went 2-0 on the night for the Tigerhawks.
