Bolts make history at girls state wrestling

CORAVILLE — The Baxter wrestling team sent competitors to the Iowa Girls State Wrestling Championships for the first time ever, and the Bolts came away with four wins.

Senior Kailee Conradi and freshman Hope Good had the same exact paths at their weight classes. They both went 2-2 at the Xtreme Arena and lost to the eventual state runner-up in their brackets.

“Our whole season has been about progress,” Baxter coach Joe Amadeo said. “We’ve improved in so many areas and adding girls to our roster has been a huge part of that.”

Conradi opened her 106-pound bracket with a win by fall. She lost to second-ranked Adyson Lundquist of Southwest Valley in the next round. Lundquist went on to finish second.

Conradi (2-2) bounced back with another pin in her first consolation match but was eliminated in the fourth bout after losing by fall.

Good also opened her 152 bracket with a win by fall. She lost to No. 4 Keeley Kehrli of East Buchanan in the second round. Kehrli was the runner-up at 152.

Good recovered with a win by pin and then lost in an elimination match by pin.

“We’re really proud of how Kailee and Hope performed,” Amadeo said. “Their success will have a huge impact on our team, school and community.”
