MARENGO — Noah Strohmeyer, John McGill and Hunter Stevens all went 3-0, but Colfax-Mingo’s wrestling team gave up too many forfeits during a road quadrangular on Thursday night.
The Tigerhawks were 13-9 in contested matches but surrendered at least four forfeits in all three duals. Colfax-Mingo was defeated 48-30 by South Iowa Cedar League rival Iowa Valley, lost 42-30 to Des Moines East and suffered a 54-30 defeat to Des Moines Lincoln.
McGill (30-4) and Stevens (26-7) combined to go 6-0 with six pins. Strohmeyer (24-3) won twice by fall and once by forfeit. McGill is three wins away from setting a new freshmen wins record at the school.
Against Iowa Valley, Strohmeyer (113), McGill (126), Austin Lane (132) and Stevens (152) all won by fall and Gaven Slycord (285) took a forfeit. The Tigerhawks were 4-3 in contested matches but gave up four forfeits.
In the loss to Des Moines East, Strohmeyer, who is ranked seventh in Class 1A at 113 pounds, took a forfeit at 120, while McGill, Stevens, Shane Aikin (182) and Kenny Schlosser (285) all won by pin.
Colfax-Mingo (13-13) was 4-3 in contested matches against East but gave up four more forfeits.
The Tigerhawks were 5-3 in contested bouts against Lincoln. Those wins all came by fall from Strohmeyer, McGill, Stevens, Aikin and Schlosser. C-M surrendered five forfeits.
Schlosser (12-2) was 2-0 with two pins on the night. Aikin (17-12) was 2-1 with two pins.
