SULLY — Half of Lynnville-Sully’s roster could not compete on the mat on Thursday night and the absences led to a pair of losses in a home triangular.
The Hawks went 3-10 in contested matches and couldn’t pick up forfeit wins at other weights as HLV and North Tama defeated Lynnville-Sully 26-24 and 54-24, respectively.
“Having everyone where they are supposed to be would have certainly helped tonight,” L-S head wrestling coach Jason Walston said. “Right now, we have a lot of competition in the room. We lost quite a bit tonight without the four or five guys who are normally out there.”
Elizabeth Elliott and Trevor Van Wyk were both out because of injury, and Brodey Johnson, Maxwell Mintle, Reese Dunsbergen, Ty Jones and Lane Mathis were all out for other reasons.
Walston expects the non-injured wrestlers to be back for the next meet.
The Hawks finished the night against HLV (3-6) and went 1-5 in contested matches. L-S (6-9) took five forfeit wins but there also were five double forfeits.
Malcolm Hay earned a win by fall at 145 pounds in the dual, and Gentry Walston (113), Gage Wearmouth (160) and Miles Mintle (220) all took forfeits.
The four wins against North Tama came from Walston (11-4) and Caleb Rea (132) by fall and from Hay and Miles Mintle by forfeit.
The Hawks were 2-5 in contested matches against the Redhawks. North Tama took four forfeits and there was one double forfeit.
Walston and Hay were both 2-0 with one pin and one forfeit each. Miles Mintle took two forfeits.
