If you have some free time, even just an hour a week, the staff and residents at Newton Village would love to welcome you as a volunteer! Newton Village Senior Health & Living provides medical, nutritional, social, and spiritual services to seniors. It’s heartwarming to see how your time and attention can brighten the lives of seniors who may not have family living close by or who would enjoy a little extra attention or assistance from time to time. Volunteers should be ages 15+.
“We love having volunteers come to assist with birthday parties, crafts and games, movies, and other fun activities like trivia,” said Cheryl Haldeman, Volunteer Coordinator for Newton Village. “The more assistance we have, the more opportunities we can provide for our seniors. Some activities are done in small groups, and some visiting may be one-on-one.”
Residents enjoy bus outings, spending time outdoors, creating art projects, and playing games like checkers, cards, and cribbage. Volunteers can also help serve residents in the coffee shop.
“Last fall we had some high school kids come in to volunteer with bingo,” added Haldeman. “Those looking to earn volunteering credit through their high school can join the Silver Cord program. The credit is a fantastic addition to any college application.”
Newton Village’s Mission is to Foster fullness of life for older adults in the spirit of Christ’s love. Newton Village is a ministry of Cassia who is serving all by following One.
