Carol Louise Rice

Carol Louise (Leege) Rice, age 88, of Prairie City, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023, at the Comfort House in Pella. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at Grace Alive Church in Prairie City. The family will greet friends on Monday January 30, 2023 from 5:00-7:00 at Grace Alive Church. Memorials may be directed to the Comfort House in Pella or Grace Alive Church. The daughter of Edwin and Dorthea (Greene) Leege, Carol was born July 6, 1934 in Waterloo, Iowa. Carol was a graduate from West High School in Waterloo and attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) and Souix Falls College in South Dakota. On October 16, 1955 she was united in marriage to Ezra Rice at First Baptist Church in Waterloo. Carol worked for the State of Iowa (Health Department and Inspections and Appeals) for 24 years before retiring in 1996.

Carol loved to make people feel important and was known for always giving hugs. She wanted to help everyone she could and was always quick to lend a helping hand. Carol was an avid card player and was part of a bridge club. She enjoyed traveling and has been to 48 states, Mexico and Canada. Most of all, Carol’s favorite thing to do was spend time with her family. Carol was a member of Grace Alive Church in Prairie City.

Those left to honor her memory include her spouse Ezra Rice, her three children, Brian Rice, Bill Rice, Kristy (David) Weyers; three grandchildren, Tyler Weyers, Brock (Maya) Weyers, and Peyton Weyers; and a sister-in-law Jean O’ Connor. Preceding her in death were her parents, Edwin and Dorthea Leege; parents-in-law, William and Mary Rice; daughter, Elizabeth Anne; grandson, Eric Weyers; sisters, Jeanne Hodges, Linda Pierce, Marcia Mae; brothers-in-law Peter Rice and Billy Rice.
