Letter to the Editor: Feeling the effect of today’s prices

Why are our taxes ranked as they are when we don’t have as many schools, business are closing and not coming in.

This is outrageous.

My husband and I are retirees as many of us are.

Groceries have gone up and many utilities. We have to replace appliance the way it is. Whirlpool do not make replacement parts now. We had to replace appliance last year!

You are trying to cut the best we can but now it’s going to get worse. We aren’t able to take vacation, or have descent Christmases anymore.

I think we better watch all the raises in pay, the way we have and start maintaining instead of tearing down what there is. Find new uses for empty buildings.

Remember there are more retired people in Newton and we are to be compared to our capital.
