Letter to the Editor: Senate Study Bill 1051 is moving forward

I’m glad to see the Iowa Senate Judiciary Committee moving forward with Senate Study Bill 1051. This bill helps keep American-made glyphosate available to Iowa farmers like me. I’m a fifth-generation farmer and I’ve used this chemical for more than 30 years, it helps us grow more while keeping costs down.

Some special interest groups are spreading fear and misinformation about this bill. They claim it gives companies immunity — it doesn’t. They also point to a study linking glyphosate to cancer, but decades of U.S. research say otherwise.

Thankfully, our lawmakers see through the noise and are doing what’s right for Iowa farmers. This bill cuts through red tape and ensures we can keep buying American-made herbicides. Without it, we might have to rely on China for glyphosate, putting our farms — and our country — at risk.

I appreciate Chairman Schultz, Senator Bousselot, Senator Shipley, and others for pushing this bill forward. I hope the rest of the Senate and House will do the same and get it passed.
