Letter to the Editor: Democracy depends on our vote

Letter to the Editor

Our democracy is under attack from within like never before in recent history. Think not? Consider Jan. 6, 2021, the former President of the United States invited a mob of insurrectionists to the U.S. Capital in a failed attempt to overthrow our democracy, When Congress reconvened later that night to ratify the results of the 2020 election, 147 Republicans in Congress voted against our democracy. This year, 2024, in a vote to support Ukraine’s democracy, and by extension our democracy, more than half of the Republicans in Congress voted against democracy.

So, the choice for President of the United States in the Nov. 5 election cannot be clearer. Do we elect a decent person who will protect our democracy and our rights and freedoms or someone who admires dictators and said he will be a dictator on day one, and with that we would lose our rights and freedoms? Do we elect someone who will move the country forward or someone who will take our country backward and tear up the constitution and have the U.S. Military arrest U.S. citizens in the U. S. Is that the country we want to live in and our children have to live in?

These are only a few of the threats posed by the MAGA presidential candidate, and it is all laid out in Project 2025.

Join me Nov. 5 in voting for the Harris-Walz ticket and all Democrats up and down the ballot, our democracy depends on our vote.

The choice should be clear to anyone who loves this country and our democracy.
