William E. “Rick” Mabie, 67, of Newton, died Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at his home. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. A celebration of life will be held on July 26, 2025, beginning at 4 p.m., at the Colo, Iowa Clubhouse. All are welcome to attend. Memorials in Rick’s name can be left at the funeral home. Rick, the son of William and Grace (Riherd) Mabie, was born July 2, 1957, in Springfield, IL. He grew up in Williamsburg, IA, where he attended Williamsburg schools. Rick played baseball for the Milwaukee Brewers minor league team in Phoenix for a few years. He then modeled for Calvin Klein, which led to a lifelong enjoyment of having his picture taken. He then owned and operated a limo business in Phoenix for several years. Rick moved back to Iowa in 1998 and worked at the Maytag Daily Farm for 15 years. In 2007, Rick began dating Renae Brown, and the two were married on January 21, 2011, in Des Moines. Rick was a biker through and through and loved his Harleys. He adored his grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them. He was a sports fan and especially liked football and baseball. He enjoyed cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and St. Louis Cardinals. In recent years, he closely followed Caitlin Clark’s basketball career.
Rick is survived by his wife, Renae of Newton; his children: Michael (Jamie) Russell of Williamsburg, Shannon (Josh) Williams of Savannah, GA, Trisha (Pat) McDonald of Creston, and Bobby (Shannon) Van Zee of Grimes; his grandchildren: Zachary (Isabella) Russell, Gage Hazen-Fabor (Isabel), Carly Russell, Carson Russell, Carter Russell, Aviana Williams, Samantha McDonald, Treasure Jones, Taylor McDonald (Noah), James McDonald, Sidney McDonald, Brady McDonald, Dylan Smith, Charlotte Van Zee, and Cooper Van Zee; his “#1 Son”, Josh Lanfier; a multitude of club brothers; and several siblings, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
