Barbara M. Loupee Slycord, the daughter of Raymond W. Loupee and Grace Anna Oliver Loupee, was born on May 30, 1938 in Baxter, Iowa. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High.

Barbara was united in marriage with Norman E. Slycord on March 31, 1956 in Newton, Iowa. They lived in Galesburg, Iowa before moving to Newton. Barbara was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Women of the Moose. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister and friend. She loved her puppies, art, and flowers.

Barbara died on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at her home in Newton surrounded by her family. She was 86. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman in 2003; twin brothers, Harry and Larry in infancy; a sister Connie in infancy; her brothers, Thomas and Galen; and her sister Betty.

Those left to honor her memory are her children Brenda Wilson, Tracy and Carol Slycord, Darci and Kevin Shipley, David and Jennifer Kirsch, Katarina and Andrew Yeo, her sister-in-law Margie Loupee; her longtime companion John Kirsch; her 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and her 2 great-great-grandchildren, plus many nieces and nephews.
