Ryan Patrick McDermott, of Newton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the age of 59. Born to Patrick D. and Rosalie L. Holtsclaw McDermott on November 1st, 1965, Ryan was a devoted father, partner, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness, passion for music, love of camping, and skill in the kitchen.
Ryan shared his life with his beloved partner, Audrey Bailey, with whom he resided in Newton. He was a proud father to his children: Dustin Ryan McDermott (Franklin, KY), Kayleigh Erika McDermott (Pittsburgh, PA), Quinlan Denny McDermott (Newton, IA), and Cassidy Sue McDermott (Lyman, ME). He cherished his grandchildren, Kyle Patrick, Aela Mae, and Dillon Paul McDermott, and found great joy in watching them grow.
He is survived by his siblings, Jeff McDermott (wife Jane), Teresa Jimenez (fiancé Tom Meyer), Tod McDermott, and Erin Thomas, along with many nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Ryan dedicated his career to serving his country as a member of the military before retiring and later working at TPI Composites. His hardworking nature and dedication left a lasting impression on his colleagues and community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick D. McDermott and Rosalie Luella Holtsclaw, his maternal grandparents, Tuffy and Gertie Holtsclaw, his paternal grandparents, Denny and Mabel McDermott, and his brother-in-law, Ralph Jimenez.
Ryan’s passions in life included playing music, spending time outdoors camping, and sharing his love of cooking with family and friends. His warmth, humor, and generosity will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
There are no services scheduled at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in Ryan’s honor.
Ryan’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of love and laughter will never be forgotten.
