Marilyn B. Burmeister

Marilyn B. Burmeister was born in 1933 in Eldon, Iowa to Veda and William Myers and passed away on March 8, 2025 at the age of 91.

Her Dad worked for the railroad and Mother was a homemaker. Marilyn graduated from Bayard High School in 1951 and was active in music. She worked for a short time in Omaha and then worked at Garst & Thomas in Coon Rapids, Iowa as a transcriber. She married Hal Burmeister in 1954 and a son, Jim, was born in 1958. Hal passed away in 1966 and Marilyn and Jim moved to Perry, Iowa where she worked for her brother in his paint store. She remarried and a son, Michael, was born.

They later moved to Newton, Iowa where she worked at Newton Manufacturing and later the Maytag Company. She gave piano lessons and accompanied many students at contest, and played piano at Our Savior Lutheran Church. She loved her students!

She was preceded in death by her husband Hal, her parents, a brother William, sister Alice (Herb), brother Dwight (Darlene), brother Dwain (Lois Jean) and sister JoAnn (Dennis).

She is survived by her children Jim (Lisa), Michael, brother Jack (Carolyn), brother Jim (Delores), sister Barbara (Jim), grandchildren Lucas Burmeister (Heather),Josh Burmeister (Felisa), Katie Burmeister, Hannah Grace Burmeister and great grandchildren James Burmeister and Vivian Burmeister, and many nieces and nephews and former piano students and friends.

A memorial service with visitation and luncheon will be held at a later date at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Newton, Iowa. Memorials may be left at the church for Our Savior Lutheran Church or St. Jude’s Cancer Research. A private burial service will be held at a later date in Bayard, Iowa.
