Bill, the son of Guy Herbert and Mary J. (Jackson) Hodge, Sr., was born on May 31, 1928, in Kirksville, Missouri.  He grew up in Kirksville and also in Arkansas and Southern Missouri, where he found a love of cotton farming. On July 4, 1950, Bill was united in marriage with Elsie Dobbs in Kirksville.  They were blessed with two daughters, Linda and Donna.  When the girls were young, the family moved to Newton, Iowa so Bill could work at the Maytag Company. For a short time, they returned to Missouri and then lived in Otley, Iowa before moving back to Newton.  Bill worked for the Maytag Company for 30 years before retiring.  He was a member of the Newton Baptist Temple and enjoyed farming, tinkering in his garage, watching Westerns and telling stories.  He also loved to spend time with his family.

Bill is survived by his daughters, Linda Shives and Donna Clement, both of Newton; grandchildren, Shawn Wolfe (Melanie Claussen Lamb), Heather Stier, Charity (Justin) Stier-Braaksma, and Faith (Thad) Repp; his great-grandchildren, Brooke (Aiden) Moore, Serenity (Cameron) Bookout, Hannah (West) Spangenburg, Micah Stier (Emma Van Cleave), Nevaeh (Wyatt) Beener, Liberty Repp, Londyn Repp, and Drake Repp; great-great-grandchildren, Jaxton Bookout, William Spangenburg, and Luella Bookout; and his sister, Mary Elizabeth Findling of Kirksville.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elsie; his brothers, Kenneth Hodge and David “Tommy” Hodge; and son-in-law, Garry Shives.
