Carolyn Bishop

Carolyn Bishop, 88, formerly of Newton, died Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Creston Specialty Care in Creston. Memorial Services was Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Burial was at Graceland Cemetery of Creston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the family. Online condolences can be left at www.powersfh.com.

Carolyn Lucille (Huffaker) Bishop was born November 10, 1936, in Baxter, Ia., to Cecil I. and Maude A. (Sutton) Huffaker. Carolyn was educated in Baxter schools.

She was united in marriage to Glen Thomas Bishop, Sr. Carolyn worked as a waitress and cook in her work life. She was employed as Mason’s Café in Newton and Park Center in Newton. Later, she met George “Red” Kromminga and the two lived together until his death in 1972.

Survivors include her son Glen “Butch” (Mary) Bishop, Jr. of Creston, 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, her sister Martha Bucklin of Newton, brothers, Donnell Huffaker of Baxter, Larry (Tesha) Huffaker of Newton and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, significant other, Red Kromminga, her sons Rodney Bishop and Timothy Bishop, grandson Jeremy Bishop, granddaughter, Michelle Bishop, daughter-in-law, JoAnne, and her siblings Gwendolyn Spearing, Donna Martin and Harlan Huffaker.
