Diana Lynn Smith

Diana Lynn (Williams) Smith, beloved mother, nana, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 9th after a courageous battle with COPD, in the company of her forever love, Bryon Smith. Diana was born to James and Patricia Williams on August 10th, 1960, in Colfax, Iowa, joining an older brother, Darrell, and later welcoming a younger brother, Danny.

Diana was united in marriage to the love of her life, Bryon Smith, on April 26th, 1975. Soon after, they welcomed a beautiful baby girl, Melissa Ann, on October 4th, 1975. Four years later, they completed their family with a son, Michael Bryon, born on March 24th, 1979. The family made their home in Colfax, where they were surrounded by family and lifelong friends. Diana was employed at Maytag for 22 years until the factory closed. She later retired from Park Centre.

She was a wonderful mother, and making food was her love language. She found life’s greatest purpose on September 28th, 1995, when she became a nana for the first time to her granddaughter, Brooke Ann Porter. Her role as Nana later expanded to include Cameron Porter on February 3rd, 1998, Baylee Porter on May 24th, 2000, Kali Smith on September 26th, 2002, and lastly, Cole Smith on October 4th, 2006.

Those left to honor her memory are her husband, Bryon, with whom she shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage; her brothers, Darrell (Janie) Williams and Danny (Marla) Williams; and her brother-in-law, Kim Smith. She is also survived by her daughter, Melissa Porter; her son, Michael (Missy) Smith; and her grandchildren: Brooke (Gabe) Stackhouse, Cameron Porter, Baylee Porter, Kali Smith, and Cole Smith. Additionally, she leaves behind her aunts, Liz Gragg and Nancy (Ron) Bruxvoort, as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was greeted at Heaven’s door by her parents, James and Patricia Williams; her infant sister, Denise; her parents-in-law, Barbara and Stanley Smith; and her sister-in-law, Cathy Davis.
