Rodney A. Hutchins of Nelson, Nebraska, 78, died January 23, 2025, Nelson, Nebraska. He was born May 29, 1946, Perry, Iowa to Frank Hutchins and Virginia (Myers) Hutchins.

He spent his early years in Newton, Iowa where he attended Newton Community schools and graduated in 1964. Rod served in the US Army at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Fort Bliss, Tx., and in Germany in the Quartermaster Corp. After the service, Rod resided in Phoenix, Az. and met and married Angie. They then moved to Grand Rapids, Mn. where he worked as a sales and design consultant in the lumber yard and continued his career in Florida before returning to central Iowa. His wife Angie passed away in 2000. Rod met and married Barbara in 2004 and resided in Nevada, Iowa until 2012 and then they relocated to Nelson. Rod enjoyed fishing and visiting casinos and there wasn’t a friend, relative or stranger that he was more than willing to share a story with. Rod was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Virginia; his wife Barb on June 15, 2019; step son Jeffrey Scott Moore, Rod is survived by his brother Russ (Sue) of Maple Grove, Minnesota, several nephews and nieces, an aunt and uncle and cousins scattered across the Midwest. Rod is preceded in death by his wife Barb, his parents Frank and Virginia and brother Richard.

Memorial Services will be at Nelson Community United Church of Christ, Nelson, Nebraska, Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 11:00 am with Pastors Ivan and Joyce Dean. Burial with Military Honors will be at Nelson Cemetery, Nelson, Nebraska.
