Carol Wayne Salyers, Jr.

Carol Wayne Salyers, Jr., 68, of Newton, died Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Park Centre in Newton. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday, February 6. Memorials to the Park Centre Activities Fund or the First Baptist Church can be left at the funeral home.

Wayne, the son of Carol and Anna (Massengale) Salyers, was born September 18, 1956, in Grinnell. He was raised in Newton and completed his education through the Community School District in 1978.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Aktion Club. He enjoyed attending summer camp at Clear Lake each year. Wayne won several medals in the Special Olympics, specializing in the 50-yard dash and the softball throw. He continued to participate even after losing his sight. Wayne enjoyed traveling with his parents, exploring many locations over the years.  He and his parents wintered in Texas for 30 years, where he enjoyed trips into Mexico to explore the shops.

Wayne is survived by his mother, Ann Salyers of Newton; his siblings, Diana Siglin of Ankeny, Sue McCuen of Altoona and Mike (Cheryl) Salyers of Newton; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his extended family at Park Centre. He was preceded in death by his father, Carol Wayne Salyers, Sr., and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Wayne will be remembered for his love of Jesus, endless cups of coffee, his big hugs, and his love of Alan Jackson music.
