Danny, the son of William Joe and Harriet Muriel (Walker) Cupples, was born on February 22, 1948, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1966. After high school, Danny was working at the Skelly Station in Grinnell with his brother, Dave, when he met Debra Geurts. One could say the rest is history as they were united in marriage on May 21, 1971 in Galesburg. They made their home in Newton. Danny would work in auto sales and at Napa before his entrepreneurial spirit that began when he had a paper route as a child grabbed hold. In 1974, Danny opened Car Country in rural Newton. Over the last 50 years, Danny’s days at Car Country included supervising over 20 employees, running the loader, crushing cars, and going to car auctions, where he would see the many friends he had made in the industry. He also owned and operated a baseball card store in the Courthouse Mall in the 1980’s. Danny enjoyed many things in addition to cars and baseball cards including coins, hot rods, and animals.
Danny is survived by his wife, Deb Cupples of Newton; children, Jason R. Cupples, Dustin L. Cupples, and Abbie S. (Skyler) Wedeking, all of Newton; his grandchildren, Tucker, Brooklyn, and Boston Cupples, Tierra and NaKaiah McNeeley and Alexander Cupples, and Liam, Ryker, and Charlee Wedeking; siblings, David (Carolyn) Cupples of Newton, Nancy (Jim) Andersen of Kellogg, and Buddy (Sandy) Cupples of Newton; his sister-in-law, Shirley Cupples; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved son, Charlie Cupples; and siblings, Jim Cupples and Cindy J. Cupples.
