Margery May Potter, 89, of Newton, IA., passed away October 12, 2024 at Park Centre in Newton. Margery was born July 15, 1935, in rural Canton, Il to John William and Clarissa Ruth (Synder) Pollitt.
Margery graduated Avon High School in 1953, and then went on to graduate from the University of Dubuque in 1957.
Shortly after college Margery married the love of her life Marvin Duane Potter on August 3, 1957 in Prairie City, Illinois. They were married for 65 years until his passing in 2022.
Margery was dedicated her life to her husband and family. She had worked at Kay Ceramics for several years. Margery was a member of P.E.O., was a Youth Group Leader, and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. Her greatest joys included attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events, was a dedicated Iowa Hawkeye fan attending many football, basketball and wrestling events, camping, ceramics, and being involved in the United Presbyterian Church of Newton. She was also very involved with church camps and “Right to Life”.
Survivors include her son, Kevin (Karene) Potter, daughters, Sharri (Don) Huyser and Vicki (Denny) Gardner, her eight grandchildren (Chase, Brock, Trey, Kendy, Keshia. Keria, Travis, and Taryn), and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Marvin D. Potter, her parents; and her sister, Opal Londo.
A visitation will be held Friday, October 18, 2024 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at the Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton. There will be a live-stream service starting at 2:30 on the Pence~Reese Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow the service at Palo Alto cemetery in rural Newton, Iowa.
Memorials may be designated in Margery’s name, (Please makes checks payable to Sharri Huyser) and may be left at the funeral home.
