Larry Lynn Gullett

Larry Lynn Gullett, age 65, Johnson County Conservation Director, passed away Sept. 6, 2024, with his family by his side. He lost his battle with cancer by working to the end.

Visitation was held at Lensing Funeral in Iowa City, Iowa. Services were held at Saint Thomas More Church in Coralville.

Larry was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on September 21, 1958 to Margaret (Allan) Gullett and the late Clifford D. Gullett. He graduated from Newton Senior High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology and extra coursework in Environmental Studies.

Larry was married to Connie Ryan at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton, Iowa on January 14, 1984. They have 2 sons, Ryan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Cody of Roseville, California.

Larry worked in conservation and environmental field for 46 years for four county conservation boards and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He served on many State of Iowa Advisory Committees. He also served as a Board Member of Iowa Rivers Revival. He focused on implementing ecological restoration projects that improved health and strengthened human connection with the environment. He was primary facilitator for a project that transferred seven acres of land to the Ioway Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska. A returning of land to the Ioway people after a 190 year absence from Iowa.

Larry is survived by his wife Connie; children Ryan and Cody; daughter-in-law Majo; mother Margaret Gullett of Newton, Iowa; brothers Gary (Liz) of Byron, Illinois, David Gullett (Dr. Lori) of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Mark of Fort Collins, Colorado; mother and father-in-law, Elaine and John “Art” Ryan of Newton; brothers and sisters-in-law Mike (Sandy) Ryan of New Sharon; Patrick (Joni) Ryan of Knoxville; sister in law, Teresa Ryan of Des Moines. Daughter-in-law’s parents Jose Rosado and Lupita Cupul of Merida, Mexico; as well as an aunt, Sally Allan of Newton, cousins and many nieces, nephews and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Gullett (2004).
