Lana May Kreiss was born May 16, 1944, the middle child of Joe and Edith Kreiss of Keosauqua, Iowa. Lana was raised and educated in Keosauqua and after high school graduated in May of 1962. She went to work at Universal Producing Company in Fairfield, Iowa. There she met her husband and lifetime partner Charles Boughner. They were married on June 28, 1963 and made their home in Fairfield. She left Universal Producing Company before their son Wesley Charles was born Feb. 3, 1965. She went to work May 1965 as a long distance operator at United Telephone Company in Fairfield and later worked in the business office there before transferring to the office in Newton, Iowa, where she worked in dispatch both there and in Grinnell, Iowa. The company changed hands several times and she retired after 44 years of service.
She was a very active lady. She served on the board for United Telephone Company and also the Mormon Trail Credit Union. She also served as secretary for the Hawkeye Packard Association and Silver Wheels Car Club of Newton, Iowa.
If someone needed help Lana was always there to assist.
She made hairpin lace afgans for family members and fellow employees as gifts.
One grandaughter Mercedes of Algona, Iowa and two great granddaughters Emerald Pauline Newby and Penny Mae Gridley of Algona, Iowa and a great grandson due in January.
Lana and her husband Charles loved to travel, old cars and numerous swap meets all over the country and a big priority for them. To them, every trip was an adventure.
Lana was preceded in death by her parents, two older brothers Gary Lee Kreiss of Fairfield, Arlo Ray of Keosauqua, two sisters Linda Brill of Des Moines and Jo Ann Wily also of Des Moines. She was very proud of her nieces and nephews. Lana was cremated and no services planned at this time.
