Gloria Faye Smith

Gloria Faye Smith, 87, passed away on Wednesday evening, September 18, 2024, at her home at Newton Village Long Term Care, Newton, Iowa. She was born September 7, 1937, in Gentry County, Missouri. The daughter of Elmo Clarence Pierce and Mabel Fern (McGinley) Pierce Waltemath, she was a high School graduate.

A Time of Celebration and Visitation will be held 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Newton Village Chapel, conducted by Chaplain Ryan Mackey. The Pence~Reese Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Newton is in charge of the arrangements.

Gloria’s journey through life came with many exciting times, she was an excellent artist whether she was painting, drawing, designing or creating special projects for her family. She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was employed as a Housekeeper at Terrace Inn and Newton Motor Inn, both in Newton.

Through her faith and some divine intervention, she was united in marriage married to Omer LeRoy Smith, on September 26, 1954. Omer and Gloria had 70 plus amazing years of marriage. This marriage was blessed with a son, Steven L. Smith. Gloria loved her family and absolutely loved family get-togethers.

Gloria is survived by her loving husband Omer; her son Steven (Merribeth) Smith; a granddaughter Katelyn M. Smith; her sisters: Sharn (Richard) Joy and Linda (John) Sommers; her nieces, nephews and cousins; and her many friends and extended family. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents.
