Linda Kay (Moredock) Koon died on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Newton Health Care. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2024, at the First Baptist Church in Newton. The family will greet friends after the service with a lunch at the church. Memorials to the First Baptist Church may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Linda the daughter of Walter and Frances (Hughes) Moredock, was born on April 28, 1946. She grew up with her six siblings in Newton and attended Newton Community Schools. Linda met the love of her life, Joey Eugene Koon and they were united in marriage on August 12, 1968. Linda’s mom wasn’t so sure about Joey, but her dad proclaimed him a “good guy” since they worked together at Maytag. Linda worked at Cliff’s Restaurant, Steve’s Grill, Skiff Hospital, and Embassy Manor.
Linda was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Newton and loved her church family dearly. She enjoyed camping, going on vacation, and playing cards and games with her family and friends; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Linda also liked to dance and taught Joe to dance as well. Family was the most important thing to Linda. She loved holiday gatherings so she could make ham balls and spaghetti salad for everyone to enjoy.
Linda is survived by her daughters, Janel Koon, Cindy Hautekeete (Vickie Gallimore), Connie Molstad, and Debora Lammey; grandchildren, Brian (Anna) Koon, Thomas Yoakum, Jada Yoakum, and Levi Gregory; her great-grandchildren, Davey and Carley; step-grandchildren, Michael and Samantha Hautekeete, Alicia, Jessica, and Cory Molstad, and Joey and Andrew Lammey; several step-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Marcia Nichols, Doris (Allen) Witzenberg, Ivan (Kay) Moredock, and Dean (Shirley) Moredock; many nieces and nephews; cousins; and great friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Frances Moredock; husband, Joey Koon; daughter, JoLinda Koon; and siblings, Carroll Moredock and Reta Phipps.
