Rusty J. Wilcox

Rusty J. Wilcox, 38, died Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, January 22, 2024, at First Christian Church, 314 E 2nd St. N, Newton, Iowa. Memorials may be made out to Amy Wilcox and sent in care of Cox-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service, PO Box 163, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Rusty was born on June 21, 1985, to Gerald Jr. and Connie (Smool) Wilcox in Newton, Iowa. He was raised in Newton and graduated from Newton High School. He worked for TPI as a wind turbine repair technician. On November 21, 2020, he married Amy Fisher in Grinnell at her parents’ home.

Ornery. That’s what Rusty was! A great man. That’s what Rusty was! He was always a very giving and loving man. He would help anyone out. Rusty made this world a brighter place. He enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and was just a big kid himself. You never dared him to do something – he always accepted the challenge. He was a member of First Christian Church in Newton and enjoyed his church family. There is a big hole that will never be filled with the passing of Rusty. He will forever be in our hearts.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Amy Wilcox; children, Joshua (Becca), Steven, Brenton and Kendyl; mother, Connie Wilcox; siblings, Erica (Dale) Maston, Gerald (Vanessa) Wilcox, Colleen (Nick) Lepley; grandparents Lois (Dan) Hildenbrand, parents-in-law, Maryann and Scott Eddins, grandmother-in-law-, Marilyn Fisher; grandparents-in-law-, Dick and Louise Eddins; sisters-in-law, Madison and Chelsea Eddins; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Jr., grandparents, Dorothy and Pete Smool, Gerald Wilcox Sr and grandfather-in-law, Roger Fisher.
