Iva Louise (Hale) Powell of Newton, Iowa passed away Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, at home with her daughters Karla and Vicki. Iva, daughter of Delbert and Edith (Hummel) Hale, was born on June 22, 1940, at Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton Senior High in 1958. In 1959 Iva was married to Larry Crady. They lived in San Diego, California where they raised their five children. In 1976 Larry retired from the Navy and the family moved back to Newton. After their divorce Iva moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she met and married Kenny Wagoner. When Kenny passed away in 1994, they were living in Show Low, Arizona. In 1997 Iva married John Powell. John passed in 2014 and she moved back to Newton in 2018 to live with her daughter, Vicki. Iva worked as a para-pro in both the California and Newton School Districts. She also worked at Ka’s Ceramics in Newton. While she lived in Arizona, she managed many different apartment complexes for 10 years. When Iva moved to Show Low, she worked at JCPenney, retiring after 15 years. After moving back to Newton, she delivered Meals on Wheels. Iva served her community through the RSVP Volunteer Program and listened to 1st and 2nd grade students read to her at school. Iva was an active church member where she volunteered in the kitchen, babysat in the nursery, and served as a greeter. Iva was passionate about collecting pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House, receiving pop tabs from friends all over the country. Iva was very talented and loved her crafts. She did oil paintings, created painted characters using patio blocks, scroll saw wood cut-outs, and stained glass works of art. Iva is survived by her brother, Ron Hale; her four children, Karla (Crady) Hoffert, Vicki (Chris Dearinger) Crady, Kevin (Rhonda) Crady, and Traci (Bob) VanderLeest; daughter in law Cathy Crady; grandchildren Chris (Erika) Crady, Chad (Aimee Elliotte), Jeremy Payne, Stacy Vonk, Desmonne (Kristin Junek) Hoffert, Dallas Fisher, Darian (Shelbi) Fisher, Megan Crady, Jesse Holder, Laci (Ryan) Olson; 13 great grandchildren; her special, best friend, and part of her family, Ron Murray. Iva was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harry Hale, and son Jymm Crady. Thank you to Kristin Junek for her help and support during this difficult time. A celebration of life and luncheon will be held at Wallace Family Funeral Home on Friday, November 17, 2023, from 11:00 – 1:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Ronald McDonald House or St. Jude’s may be left at the funeral home.
