H. Wayne Van Wyngarden

H. Wayne Van Wyngarden, age 94 of Monroe, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at 1:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. The family will greet friends following the service at the church in the fellowship hall. Private family burial will be held at Silent City Cemetery. The son of Bernard L. and Iona Ruth (Crane) Van Wyngarden, Wayne was born on April 15, 1929, in Newton, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Monroe High School. On August 10, 1950, he was united in marriage to Vivian Vande Lune at her parents home in Prairie CIty. Wayne served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. Wayne farmed and delivered mail for the USPS. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Rural Mail Carriers and the Monroe American Legion.

Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 73 years, Vivian; children; Randy (Linda) Van Wyngarden, Rick (Kathy) Van Wyngarden, Ronda (Rick) Butler, and Ron (Krista) Van Wyngarden; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Darlene Vander Pol, Ila Walker, Doyle (Helen) Van Wyngarden and Linda (Steve) Hewitt as well and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers-in-law, Donald Vander Pol and Bruce Walker.
