Dorothy Jeanne Grayson

Dorothy Jeanne Grayson, 88, of Newton died on Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Newton Village. A private family graveside service will be held at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to Wesley Life Hospice or Newton Village may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Dorothy, the daughter of Vincent Stanley and Lula Ruby (Springfield) Reynolds, was born on June 5, 1935 in Memphis, Texas. She then moved with her family to Oklahoma and graduated from high school in Waynoka. On October 9, 1955, Dorothy was united in marriage with Clyde Grayson, Jr. in Guyman, Oklahoma. They made their home in Oklahoma and then Kansas, where Dorothy went to college at Dodge City Community Junior College and also Saint Mary of the Plains College. In Kansas, she also worked as a telephone operator. In 1970, Clyde, Dorothy, and their children moved to Iowa living in Marshalltown, Grinnell, and then Newton. Dorothy was a talented musician. She taught piano lessons and was the accompanist at many area churches. She also loved to paint, crochet, and knit.  Dorothy was a former member of the First Baptist Church in Newton.

Dorothy is survived by her three children, Rick Grayson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Randy (Stacey) Grayson of Newton, and Julie (Don) Fisher of Newton; grandchildren, Derek Grayson, Dustin (Elaine) Grayson, Elizabeth Grayson, Christopher Grayson (Brenda Guevara), Randy Lee Grayson II (Maria Reeves), Cody (Ashley) Fisher, Caitlin (Curtis) Mellick, Cal Fisher, Ross (Kate) Sickora, and Austin Sickora; and her great-grandchildren, Avery, Layla, Cooper, Leo, Grant, Logan, Lisette and Grace. She is also survived by her twin sister, Doris (David) Anderson of Newton and a brother, Jim Reynolds of Texas. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clyde in 2007.
