The youngest son of Otha Dwight Hulse and Rhea Elizabeth (Wood) Hulse, Larry was born on the family farm in Mingo on May 12, 1938. He grew up on the farm, and graduated from Mingo High School with the class of 1956. Upon graduation, Larry proudly served his country as a United States Marine until 1958. He then spent seven years on call back. Larry married Rosemary Elizabeth Cook in 1960. The two of them operated the family farm and raised three daughters. Larry also drove a school bus for the Mingo Community Schools. He spent some time working at John Deere as well as Maytag. Larry was kind and friendly to everyone.

Growing up in Mingo, Larry was a longtime member of the Mingo United Methodist Church. He was involved in many church activities; singing bass in the Mingo Quartet, helping with the annual turkey suppers and the ice cream socials. He always volunteered to help his wife with the church Easter Lilies and Poinsettias. Larry was involved in a card club, and he and Rosemary hosted a Christmas sing-along in their home for over 40 years. Larry loved his family, and he loved to travel. During his life, he visited all 50 states, took a family vacation each summer, and took the grandkids to places like Adventureland and Trainland. Throughout his years, Larry was able to make many memories traveling and spending time with his family.

Following the passing of his wife, Larry moved to Mill Pond Senior Living Community in Ankeny where he resided for nearly eight years. He enjoyed many new friendships there as he participated in the social activities.

Those left to honor Larry’s memory include his three daughters; Linda (Lee) Johansen, Sandra (Wayne) Johnson, and Carrie (Jake) Schaefer, eight grandchildren; Lucas (Lexie) Johansen, Landon (Lindsay) Johansen, Jessica (Mo Kaidi) Johnson, Keagan (Kayla) Johnson, Sawyer Schaefer, Spencer Schaefer, Sloane Schaefer, and Sutton Schaefer, and seven great grandchildren; Lillian, Levi, Lyra, Carter, Charlotte, Karson, and Kameron.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rosemary, brother Gene Hulse and sister Harriet Hulse Murphy.
