William “Bill” R. Deutsch

William “Bill” R. Deutsch, 100, of Harmon, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022, after receiving loving care at Heritage Square, Dixon. He farmed most his life, until his retirement in 1987.

Bill was born June 9, 1922, in Newton, IA, the son of Arthur and Mildred (Raymond) Deutsch. He married Barbara Pearson on February 17, 1951, in Eureka, IL. She preceded him in death on October 24, 2016. He was a member of First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, Dixon. Bill served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He graduated from Iowa State University and went on to complete a Master’s degree in Agricultural Management from the University of Illinois. Besides his love of family and farming, he was an avid follower of world events, and politics. He loved engaging in discussions, always interested in learning about what was happening in the lives of family and friends. His polite nature and sense of humor were a delight to all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his, three daughters, Julie (Tom Prendergast) Deutsch of Dixon, Nancy (Richard Gross) Deutsch of San Francisco, CA, Cathleen Deutsch of Dixon; son, Timothy (Jeanne) Deutsch of Newton, IA; six grandchildren, Timothy (Carolina) Prendergast, Bridget (Clint Reed) Prendergast, Zack (Lauren Hoy) Deutsch-Gross, John (Amanda) Deutsch, Anne Deutsch, Mark Deutsch; Three great-grandchildren, Tomas Prendergast, Santiago Prendergast; Wren Reed and one brother, Joe (Mary) Deutsch.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister at infancy.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Dixon with Rev. Lynn Bond, officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Newton Union Cemetery in Newton, IA. Cremation rites have been accorded.
