Harold Charles Wright, Jr., 98, of Newton died on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. No services are scheduled at this time. Memorials to the First United Methodist Church or the Parkview Animal Hospital or the Donor’s Choice may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Harold, the son of Harold Charles Wright, Sr. and Edna Mae Wittle, was born on December 11, 1923 in Marshalltown. As a young child, his family moved to Ohio and Harold graduated from high school in Cleveland. He then took specialized classes in drafting. From February 9, 1943 until November 27, 1945, Harold served his country in the U.S. Army. After his service, he moved to Newton, Iowa. On May 15, 1948, Harold was united in marriage with Betty Jacobs at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked at Denniston and Partridge as a draftsman for 13 years before becoming a construction engineer at the Maytag Company, where he would work until his retirement in 1985. Harold was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past member of the Izaak Walton League. He also enjoyed taxidermy, hunting, and doing remodeling projects. Harold was also a talented artist and loved to draw and paint.
Harold is survived by his wife, Betty Wright of Newton; sons, Patrick (Linda) Wright of Lancaster, California and Jeffrey (Yvonne) Wright of Davenport; grandchildren, Stephanie (Jason) Woods, Anastasia (Keith) Blyn, Savannah Wright, and Abigail Wright; his seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joanne (Larry) Thomason of Newton and Judy Rogers of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Clarence (Nancy) Wright.
