We mourn the loss of our totally awesome mom, Marian Mills.
She was born in a farmhouse, March 26, 1934, in Atlantic, Iowa to Marie and Bernard Perry. She passed in Roswell, Georgia on October 19, 2022.
A high school graduate in Jefferson, Iowa, and a college graduate of Drake University.
Married to Kenneth H. Mills, June 9th, 1956, in Newton, Iowa where they resided for 45 years.
Marian taught in the Newton Public Schools for 23 years. Teaching 6th grade at Emerson House, Title1 reading at Thomas Jefferson, Woodrow Wilson, and Lincoln Schools, along with substitute teaching in a variety of positions. After retiring, she became a wardrobe consultant for Doncaster clothing for 20 years.
She was a member of Chapter CV TTT for 30 years, Theta Chi Sorority, HS PEO, served on the Mental Health Board at Capstone, as well as Skiff Hospital Auxiliary, and a longtime member of the Newton Country Club.
Ken and Marian raised two children, Barry of Atlanta, Georgia and Carol in Irvine, California. She has one grandchild, Tyler (married to Grace), and two great- granddaughters, Sydney and Jordyn, also in Georgia.
They enjoyed golf for many years and played several courses across the country as well as Europe. She had a lifetime love of music and played the piano, being taught by her maternal grandmother, who played by ear. In her retirement years, she and Carol travelled abroad to many places.
After Ken passed in 2000, Marian moved to the Atlanta area to be near her grandson and son. She loved city life and weekends at Lake Oconee with Barry.
Marian was preceded in death by her mother and father as well as her brother Charles Perry. Marian has an older sister, Marlyn Naggs, who resides on the east coast.
