Steven Jay Haldeman

Steven Jay Haldeman, 66, of Newton died on Friday, October 7, 2022, at Accura Health Care of Newton East. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association may be left at the graveside service or the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Steve, the son of Gordon Harvey and Dora Berdine (Breckenridge) Haldeman, was born on July 23, 1956 in Newton. Growing up he also lived in Colorado, Arkansas, and Oklahoma before returning to Iowa in 1975. Steve worked at Adventureland as a cook before becoming a security guard, first working in Des Moines and later at Trinity Towers in Newton. He enjoyed going to flea markets, thrift store, and garage sales. Steve also liked car shows and the Iowa Speedway.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Chaya “Quinn” Haldeman of Newton; step-son, Patrick Garr of Newton; his brother, Mike (Cheryl) Haldeman of Newton; niece and nephew, Tara Rechtfertig and Jeff Haldeman; and his great nieces and nephew, Tatum, Joseph, and McKenzly. He was preceded in death by his parents and ex-wife, Sandra Garr.
