Lawrence " LD” Funk was born June 7, 1938, to Willard H. Funk and Iona Double Funk in Newton, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Janice Vancise on July 15, 1956, at the Congregational Church in Baxter. From this marriage they were blessed with four wonderful children: Teresa Nash, Jeff Funk, Curt Funk, and Angie Funk Jones. LD retired as a die setter out of the Plastics Department at Maytag after 29 years of service. He was often referred to by a special friend as “Mother”.
LD was multi-talented with an artistic side and enjoyed furniture building, custom painting motorcycles, custom gun carving, drawing, painting, fishing and lawn care. LD and Janice enjoyed touring the county on their motorcycle with their friends. LD and Janice together enjoyed their special weekly group of “Coffee and Breakfast” friends.
LD passed away on August 5, 2022, in his home in Newton. He was 84 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard & Iona Funk, his brother, Leroy Funk and his sister Norma Jean Funk.
Those left to honor LD’s memory are his loving wife of 66 years Janice; his children, Teresa (Fred) Nash of Pierce City, MO., Jeff Funk of Newton, Curt Funk of Victor, and Angie Jones of Newton; grandchildren, Justin Nash and Mendy of Monett, MO., Aaron Funk of Newton, Jeffery Funk of Newton, Kirstyn Jones of Newton, and Brandon Jones of Colfax; and great-grandchildren, Marley and Rueben Nash of Monnet, MO., Benson Funk of Newton, and Jaxton Funk of Newton. LD referred to as “Unc” was adopted by three very special daughters: Euni Carkhuff of Holland MI., Betsy Hingst of Keokuk, IA., and Becca Carkhuff of Burlington, IA.
The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday, August 20, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Please, any donations made in memory of Lawrence should be made payable to Janice Funk.
