Jerome Anthony “Jay” Jackson, 56, of Kellogg died on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at his home. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials to Hospice of the Midwest may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Jay, the son of Robert “Bobby” and Mary Ann (Middleton) Jackson, Sr. was born on July 25, 1965, in Des Moines. He grew up in Newton and later moved to Des Moines; where he would graduate from North High School. In high school, Jay was on the swim team and specialized in diving. After high school, Jay worked at Hy-Vee in Des Moines for many years. He later moved to Ames and worked at Hickory Park and most recently returned closer to home; living in Kellogg while working at Jeldwin in Grinnell. Jay was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed music, movies, Jeopardy, and traveling. One of his many trips combined his love of movies and travel as he went to Zihuatanejo, Mexico after seeing it on the movie Shawshank Redemption.
Jay is survived by his mom, Mary Ann (Clayton) Newell of Newton; siblings, Robert “Bobby” Jackson of Newton, Michelle Jackson (Billy Hobbs) of Kellogg, Shelly Fitzgerald of Castle Rock, Colorado, Mark (Lindsey) Porter of San Diego, California; and his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Dey Jackson, Sr.; sister, Sindy Wozniak; brother, Jerald “Deuce” Porter; paternal grandparents, Harvey and Dorthea Jackson, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Delos and Wilma Middleton; aunts and uncles, including, Joanne Jackson; and cousin, Deano Williams.
