Donald Eugene Thompson was born Dec. 10, 1938, in Newton to Russell and Colleen Thompson and passed away Jan. 24, 2020, in Hanford, Calif., from Levy Body Dementia.
Donald graduated from Newton Senior High and has lived in California since 1960. He was a photographer working on weddings, fashion, yearbooks, commercial, including for Walt Disney of Disneyland and belonged to Professional Photographers of Iowa and California. He loved coming home to Newton to visit parents and family.
Don was preceded in death by his parents of Newton; and brother-in-law, Jake Nichols. Left to honor his memory are his brother, Kenneth Thompson of Newton; sisters, Bev Nichols of Indianola and Carolyn Hunter of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews. The family had a private graveside service.
