Charles Richard Tabor, 91, of Newton, died on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at Newton Health Care Center.
The family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Following visitation, a graveside service will be held at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials in Charles’ name (checks made payable to Rod Tabor) may be left at the funeral home.
Charles, the son of Zyrl and Frances (Smith) Tabor, was born Oct 9, 1929, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1948. Charles was united in marriage with Ladonna “Donna” Toye on March 29, 1950, in Des Moines. They made their home in Newton; moving out to the farm in 1957. In addition to farming for many years, Charles also worked on the Plant 2 assembly line for the Maytag Company for 38 years. He was a member of the Wittemberg Grange, Farm Bureau and had attended Cornerstone Bible Fellowship. Charles enjoyed traveling, gardening, listening to the radio and spending time with his grandchildren.
Charles is survived by his children, Regan (Susan) Tabor of Wichita, Kan., Rod Tabor of Newton and Amy (Craig) Schulte of Eagan, Minn.; grandchildren, Kyle (Kati) Tabor, Kevin (C.J.) Tabor, Nicole (Scott) Bryant, Brendan (Ashley) Tabor, Connor Schulte and Alex Schulte; his eight great-grandchildren; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna in 2019; brother, Bob Tabor; and sister, Jean Marie Tabor.
