Pamela Sue Helms, 69, of Macomb, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, at the University of Iowa Medical Center in Iowa City.
She was born Sept. 30, 1951, in Newton, to Laurel and Eloise Johnson Dykstra. She married Rodney Helms on Sept. 17, 2004, in Macomb. He survives. Also surviving are two sons, Aaron (Michelle) Allen of Altoona and Jeremy (Stephanie) Allen of Tennessee; one daughter, Rachel (Jason) Kreps of Colchester; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Laura Dawson of Newton; one brother, Craig (Cindy) Dykstra of Canyon City, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. Pam was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Sharon Tabor; and one granddaughter, Faith Allen.
Pam was devoted to family and her greatest joy was to spend time with them.
Pam earned her bachelor’s degree and her master’s degree at Western Illinois University. She worked as a mental health therapist in Macomb for several years. Her compassion and sincerity helped many along their path in life. Art was a passion for Pam and she was an accomplished artist in her own right. Her paintings grace the homes of family, friends and art lovers across the nation. Pam was a member of the Macomb Arts Center. She loved animals of all sorts.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 1 at Clugston-Tibbitts Funeral Home in Macomb. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Wildlife Society or the Animal Shelter of your choice.
