Nora Jean (Bowers) Sandrock Shively, 75, of Newton, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2021, at Accura Health Care of Newton East. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association may be left at the funeral home.
Nora Jean, the daughter of Dean and Nora Belle (Vinson) Stacy, was born Oct. 2, 1945, in Colfax. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1964. Nora Jean worked at Newton Manufacturing for many years and later in the office at Prairie Meadows. After meeting in 1993, Nora Jean and Allen Shively have been in a committed relationship ever since. They married Oct. 11, 2008, in their backyard in Newton. Nora Jean was an excellent mom and loved being a grandma. She was a talented line dancer and whistler and enjoyed traveling. Nora Jean had a witty sense of humor and met life’s challenges with a smile and a joke. Nora Jean and Allen also enjoyed their weekly coffee group.
Nora Jean is survived by her husband, Allen Shively of Newton; children, Kevin Sandrock of Knoxville and Kendi Trotter of Newton; step-son, Joshua (Kim) Shively of LaCrosse, Wis.; grandchildren, Chasity Trotter, Brittany Trotter, Cody Trotter, Jaiden Eisbrenner, Ella Shively, Ava Shively and Kurtlyn Sandrock; her six great-grandchildren; siblings, Delores Flanders of California, George Bowers of California and Linda (Darrell) Zegers of Sully; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Kurt Sandrock; and siblings, Richard Bowers, Virginia Lee, Stanley Bowers and Roger Bowers.
