Ernest “Ernie” E. Albers, 90, of Newton, formerly of Grandview, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021, at ParkCentre. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials to Ernie’s family may be left at the funeral home.
Ernie, the son of Eilert and Wilhelmine (Goldenstein) Albers, was born Feb. 23, 1930, in Golden, Ill. He grew up and graduated from high school in Golden. Ernie served his country in the U.S. Air Force for four years. Upon returning he went to college in Carthage, Ill., before transferring to Wartburg College, where he would graduate with a degree in teaching. On Feb. 23, 1958, Ernie was united in marriage with Ruth “Arlene” Anthony in Grandview. They made their home in Ute for a short time before moving to Grandview. Ernie worked for 35 years at Heinz in Muscatine. When he retired in the 1980s he continued to work part-time for several years for Grimm’s Brothers in Wapello. Ernie dedicated his life to two things; first his Savior and second his family. He was an active lifetime member at the Grandview Community Bible Church where he served faithfully. Ernie was also a talented writer and enjoyed writing prayers, poems and letters to friends and family.
Ernie is survived by his daughters, Wanda (DeWayne) Dusenberry of Davenport, Teresa (Jim) Heiling of Sioux City, Carol (John) Smith of Hallsville, Mo., and Marie (Curt) Henderson of Newton; 15 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene Albers; brothers, Albert, Francis, Paul, Walter and Raymond Albers; sisters, Mildred Croxton and Rosalie DeNiro; and two grandchildren, Jonathan and Samuel Henderson.
