Police have arrested a 20-year-old Newton man who is accused of having a sexual relationship with a juvenile four years younger than him, using her cell phone to record them having sex and then requesting the footage afterward. The accused, Francisco Sordo Guerrero, is now facing three felony charges.
According to criminal complaints filed in the Iowa District Court in Jasper County, Sordo Guerrero has been charged with sexual exploitation of a minor (Class B felony), possessing depictions of a minor in a sex act-first offense (Class C felony) and third-degree sexual abuse (Class C felony).
Officers received a report from a juvenile child victim and their parent in early January. The child victim told police she had been in a relationship with Sordo Guerrero for about 18 months and that he used her cell phone to record them having sex.
The victim had text messages to support her concerns, and she and the parent agreed to provide the cell phone to police for review of potential evidence. A digital copy was created of the phone, and police located videos supporting her claims. Sordo Guerrero appeared to hold the phone in some of the videos.
Text messages also showed them talking about their sexual encounters, as well as Sordo Guerrero soliciting the recordings. The text message history confirmed the victim then sent the recordings. When police questioned the accused, he admitted he knew the victim and knew the year and month she was born.
Sordo Guerrero admitted to all of the victim’s claims.
